Jervoise Station - History
Jervoise Station is owned by Kerry and Greg Jonsson. Jervoise was purchased in 1965 by Greg's late father, Alf Jonsson who was a vegetable farmer on the Atherton Tablelands. Greg and Kerry started their married life at Jervoise in 1970. Greg ran cattle and farmed the rich red volcanic soil on the high country. They grew such crops as peanuts, corn and sorghum. Greg and Kerry have six children all of the children and their families play a part in the family business.

Kerry and Greg have had many wonderful times at Jervoise and many wonderful experiences. They decided many years ago to share their farming life with children who did not have the same opportunities as their own children enjoyed. For six years they took in disadvantaged youth sharing with them the experiences of life and work on a property. Over that period 177 young men and women passed through their doors most of them obtained good jobs and are doing well with their lives.




Jervoise Certified Organic Beef Station - Nth Queensland
Jervoise Station is ideally situated approximately 288 kilometers from Townsville, 256 kilometers from Atherton and 256 kilometers from Charters Towers. On the waters of the Burdekin and just on the eastern side of the Great Dividing Range and due west of Ingham. The property is in the middle of all the northern markets. The local township is Greenvale, only 35 kilometers away, Greenvale has a primary school, supermarket and hotel.

The Property is 70,000 acres it has two large sets of yards (capable of handling up to 2500 head of cattle) and two smaller sets of yards (with a 250 to 500 head capacity).

Several features make Jervoise unique. One of these being the rich red soil plateau which is equivalent to any farming area on the Atherton Tableland. Many successful crops have been planted at Jervoise over the years. The development of Jervoise to successful certification by the Biological Farmers of Australia. Certification Number 4186A (Organic Beef Cattle) has taken many years. The certification means that our herd is TOTALLY FREE of any Dips, Fly Sprays, Drenches, Hormonal Growth Promotants or Injections of any type,and now with the Meat Processing Plant at Tully and both properties being fully certified for organic meat production, Jervoise can boast integrity of an organic status in its 100% Australian organic beef.


Kristine and Kerry Jonsson were graziers on the family`s Jervoise cattle station at Greenvale near Mt Garnet, west of Cairns, before they decided to start up a slaughtering, processing and packaging side of the business.

They now run the Far North`s only certified organic abattoir, selling a range of organic meats and recently combining forces with the Tableland`s Mungalli Creek dairy for distributing purposes.

The family stopped using dips and sprays in the late 1970s and its properties are now subject to random audits, annual soil testing and regular kidney fat sampling.

"Ultimately we`d like to supply around 20 head of prime certified cattle a week to markets down south, 50 weeks a year, while still servicing the Cairns and Townsville regions."

The pair produces nine different flavours of gluten and preservative-free sausages and everything from steak, corned beef and roasts to suet.
